Sex offender sent to prison for 3rd time this year

A 27-year-old sex offender was sent back to prison today for the third time this year after having an unapproved relationship with a female sex offender, whom he brought back to the state-run halfway house where he lived, court officials said.

Andrew E. Sarber, a former Sheboygan man who now lists a Madison address, was sentenced to eight months in prison by Judge James Bolgert. The judge recommended the sentence be served at a mental institution, citing Sarber’s repeated violations of extended supervision.

“There’s honestly something not right that you’re able to live in our community and violate these rules so openly,” Bolgert said.

having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl in March 2002 — has now been sent back to prison five times since January 2004. His prior violations of extended supervision included talking to two young girls after going out of range of his electronic monitoring bracelet, kissing a 15-year-old girl, trying to use another person’s credit card and bringing alcohol to the halfway house.

The violations typically occurred within weeks or months of his release from prison.
